IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sergeant Ebony
Winn
March 1, 1981 – November 22, 2025
Sergeant Ebony Winn, 44, of Coral Springs, Florida, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on March 1, 1981, in Vero Beach and raised in Ocala, Florida, Ebony was the beloved daughter of Aris and Clarence Taylor. She was a loving sister to Jerrel Taylor and Shakaya Taylor, and a proud aunt to her beloved nephews, Jayden Taylor and Devontae Jenkins. Ebony was cherished by her grandfather, Jesse Woodbright as well as her Aunts, Catherine Davis, Lorene Gooding, Arvilla Sharpe, Tara Anderson, & Natasha Williams. She was predeceased by her grandmothers, Mary Woodbright and Willie May Newman, and her grandfather, Otis Newman.
Ebony graduated from Saint Leo University, where she excelled academically and athletically, playing basketball with the same determination and humility that later defined her professional life.
Guided by a strong work ethic, she pursued a career in education, serving as a teacher at the City of Coral Springs Charter School. She was especially devoted to the students she coached, inspiring countless young women through mentorship and leadership.
In 2008, Ebony joined the Coral Springs Police Department, where she built a distinguished career marked by dedication, integrity, and compassion. From her very first days in uniform, she served this community with unwavering commitment, always putting others first. She rose to the rank of Sergeant, the first African-American female in the department's history, a milestone she celebrated with profound pride. Her colleagues knew her as someone they could always turn to for guidance, steady support, and perspective—an anchor within the agency whose presence made an immediate difference.
Throughout her career, she fulfilled numerous roles including Field Training Officer, RAD Instructor, Crisis Intervention Officer, Peer Supporter, Struggle Well Counselor, and Hostage Negotiator. Her talent for communication and de-escalation brought peaceful resolution to complex and dangerous situations. Her absence will be deeply felt across the department she served so faithfully for nearly two decades.
Ebony's service extended beyond enforcement, she was deeply committed to supporting victims, advocating for the vulnerable, and uplifting her colleagues. She volunteered with the Mystic Force Foundation supporting children battling cancer, forming meaningful bonds with patients and their families.
Outside of work, Ebony found joy in family gatherings, sports, travel, and her beloved pets—her dog, Shane, and cat, Domino. A proud Trekkie, she enjoyed Star Trek: The Next Generation, Gator football, reading, and adventure. She lived life boldly, fulfilling dreams such as skydiving, swimming with great white sharks, and going on an African safari.
Ebony will be remembered for her generous spirit, unwavering loyalty, humor, humility, and her ability to make others feel supported and seen. She was the rock of her family, the glue that held loved ones together, and a trusted friend and mentor to many.
Her legacy of service, courage, and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew her.
