Obituary

Ruth Marjorie Center Fay, at age 90, passed away at home on Thursday October 17, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Cambridge, NY to Judson and Marjorie Center, and raised there along with her 2 younger brothers, Judson Jr. and Richard. In 1944, she graduated from St. Peter's Hospital School of Nursing, in Albany, NY. Shortly thereafter, she met a young marine named Edward F. Fay, Jr. They fell in love, married, and had 7 children, 4 girls and 3 boys, between 1948 and 1958. The family moved to Ft. Lauderdale in 1957. After moving south, she worked at the Beach Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, and then worked for many years as a nursing supervisor at Bennett Hospital in Plantation, FL, retiring in 1987. She was admired for her never ending compassion and devotion to those in need. Still looking to help others, she then volunteered at Manna Share-a-Meal, a local non-profit organization that provides food to needy families. Ruth enjoyed traveling as well as playing the slots, her "Wii" games, cards, and working on cross-word puzzles. She loved her family and her life revolved around them. She especially loved being a grandmother, often spoiling many of them. Her family and friends adored her, and she will forever missed. Mom, Thank you for all the love and joy you have given to us all. Rest gently and peacefully for you are safely home now. Love, Kathy, Peg, Chris, Jim, Tom, and Ruth. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Edward F. Fay, Jr. and son William E. Fay. She is survived by her children, Kathleen Fay of Coral Springs, Peggy Jackson of Ft. Lauderdale, Christine Trice (Fred) of Davie, James Fay (Mary Kay) of Houston, TX, Thomas Fay (Maryellen) of Denver, NC, and Ruth Todd (Steven) of Davie, FL. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Marcia Fay, 15 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Donations may be made in Ruth's name to Manna Share-A-Meal, Inc., 7946 N.W. 10th Street, Plantation, FL 33322 or St. Jude's Children's Hospital at .
