IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Pamela Jo
Stern-Hilins Black
May 12, 1958 – December 25, 2021
Pamela Jo (Stern-Hilins) Black, age 63, of Coral Springs, Florida, entered eternal life on Christmas Day, December, 25, 2021. Born in Commack, Long Island, New York, to George Brown and Victoria Romano. Pam moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida with her two sisters and mother when she was just four years old. She spent her youth running around with her sisters and friends in the Bayview Drive area of Fort Lauderdale from the beach and back. She loved to retell stories of sneaking into places like the elbow room, spending nights at friends houses and hanging out around town. She was a true Fort Lauderdale girl! She treasured her lifelong friendships and eagerly anticipated her frequent Fort Lauderdale High School (Class of 1976) reunions held over the years. She was forever a proud "flying L".
At the age of 19, she began her first professional career as a hair stylist at Head to Toe, where she spent many years developing a loyal following and fostering lifelong friendships with her clients, and where she was fondly known as Pamela Perfect.
At 29, Pam found herself in the lobby of Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale, then a tiny church behind Albertsons on Commercial Drive and Dixie Hwy. It was there that she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, a decision that defined her and one that she continued to share with others throughout her life. She would want everyone and anyone to know that her personal relationship with her savior is what carried her through all of the joys and trials of her life.
At the age of 35, always determined to achieve whatever task to which she set her mind, Pam dedicated herself to the study of a new career as a registered respiratory therapist. From Fort Lauderdale to Wisconsin and back to Delray Beach, Florida, one of Pam's most proud life accomplishments was caring for and serving her patients working as an RT.
Pam's two children, Andrew and Katie, were the center of her universe and at the forefront of her thoughts each day as was evident by the multiple phone calls and texts that she would send to check in with them. While somewhat of a nuisance at the time, they are now treasured reminders of how much she loved them both.
On a warm July night, Pam was lucky enough to watch love begin again when she met Roy, her beloved husband, at the Round Up in Davie, FL. They managed to pack a lifetime of love into a decade as they spent much of their time sharing long drives to nowhere in Roy's corvette and hosting their many friends in their famous pool parties and driveway parties (thanks covid!). And it was with Roy at her side, that she took her last breath.
Pam is preceded into the kingdom of heaven by her stepfather Pat (James) Slack and mother, Victoria Romano. Her maternal grandparents, Joseph and Hildegard (Schultz) Romano; her paternal grandparents, William Sr. and Marguerite (Estelle) Brown; her maternal aunt, Pepi Romano and her paternal uncle, William Brown, Jr. She is survived by her father, George Brown ( Chalfont, PA) and her legacy and love for her family will continue on in her husband Roy Black (Coral Springs, FL), her daughter Katie (Cody) Clark (Parkland, FL), her son Andrew (Manuela) Hilins (Miami, FL); as well as her step daughters Christy (Matt) Vaill (Estero, FL) and Kerry (Patrick) Szczerba (Orlando, FL); and dearly loved grandchildren- each of whom were her favorite- Connor, Parker, Caroline, Carter, Cameron and James; as well as by her sisters Lori Cox (Franklin, TN) and Stacy Heymann (Plantation, FL) and little brother JJ Slack (Maui, HI) , and by her many nieces and nephews.
Pam's wishes are that we all celebrate and have peace in knowing she is with our Lord in Heaven! Her family will be hosting a celebration of life on Saturday, January 8th, outdoors at home. A short message will be shared from her Pastor followed by lunch, music, and fellowship amongst family and friends.
Her family looks forward to spending this time with all those who knew and loved Pam…listening to shared experiences and memories! This is a joyous occasion as she, and all of her family, know that she is at peace!
Tropical Casual Attire- Pam's wishes!
