Norma Evelyn Holmes' Obituary
Norma E. Holmes, 89, of Davie, FL and formerly of Ocala, FL, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the eldest child of Louis and Ruth Heise.
Norma was married to her beloved Jack in 1946. They moved to North Miami, FL in 1948 where Jack had started working for Eastern Airlines after WWII. Employed as a bookkeeper for People's Bank for a number of years, Norma "retired" to enjoy being a stay-at-home mom when their daughter was born. In 1981, Jack & his "Reds" retired to Ocala, FL where they remained for the next 30+ years.
Norma was a long-time member of St. John's United Methodist Church of Cotton Plant, Ocala, FL and the National Airlines Starlighters. She was a crossword puzzle aficionado and a charter Days of Our Lives fan, often discussing the denizens of Salem with her friend, Mary.
The Holmes' loved to travel, especially by travel trailer on extended camping trips. In 1985 they enjoyed a three month trip across Canada to Alaska, followed by a second grand trip up the East Coast to Nova Scotia in 1991. They frequently took their grandson on summer trips to historical sites around the eastern US.
Blessed with a fantastic memory, Norma always told great stories. She had a red-head's temper, but possessed a big, sentimental heart like no other. Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughter, Karen Llera; her grandson, Ryan Llera, DVM and his wife, Jennifer Weeks-Llera, DVM.
In addition to her daughter and grandson, Norma is survived by her brother, Ronald (Kathy) Heise, several nieces and nephews and forever friends, Mary A., Betty L. & Jim K. Norma was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John L. "Jack" Holmes, and her sister, Joyce Reichart.
A Celebration of Norma's life will be held at 11:00 AM on May 14, 2016 at St. John's United Methodist Church of Cotton Plant, 12390 West Highway 328, Ocala, FL 34482, followed by a gathering of friends. In lieu of flowers, Norma would appreciate contributions in her memory to St. John's United Method Church, your local Make-A-Wish chapter http://wish.org/ or PetsMart Charities https://www.petsmartcharities.org/
