Obituary

Noreen P. Szoke, 65, our beloved Mimi, proud wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and the benevolent heart and center of the Szoke family passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 27, 2022 in Coral Springs, Florida. She is survived by her Husband of 45 years Andrew Szoke, as well as her children Andrew Szoke, and Erin Geiger (Szoke). Further, she leaves behind three grandchildren Colston Geiger, Arianna Geiger, and Lillian Szoke. Also, left to cherish her memory is her sister Geraldine Vila (Cush), Raymond Vila (brother-in-law), Kathleen Jahoda (sister-in-law), Stephen Jahoda (brother-in-law), Andrew Szoke Sr. (father-in-law), Eve Kovacs (great aunt), Donald Geiger (son-in-law), Mary Szoke (daughter-in-law), and nieces and nephews Amy Samaro, Elisha Reisser (Samaro), James Samaro, William Samaro, Stephen Jahoda, Kristina Jahoda, and Jessica Jahoda. She is preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Mary Cush, her mother-in-law Gabriella Szoke, and brother-in-law Peter Szoke.

Noreen was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 14, 1956, to Gerald and Mary Cush and was raised there along with her sister Geraldine. Subsequently, the Cush family moved to East Brunswick, New Jersey where she would finish her adolescent years. During this time, when Noreen was 15, she worked as a cashier at S&S Meat Store, a local grocery store where she would meet the love of her life, the boss' son Andrew Szoke. She would describe the first time they met as "love at first sight", knowing then she met her forever love. Andrew and Noreen were true high school sweethearts, attending prom and various social events and over the years sharing many happy memories together. Her husband even taught her to drive, they were often seen together zooming around town in her Datsun 360z. Subsequently, they were married at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Old Bridge, New Jersey on May 1, 1977.

Over the years, Noreen would work in various occupations; medical assistant, hostess, accounting, but spent the majority of her professional career working along side her husband Andrew. Their journey began in the store in New Jersey but soon moved to Coral Springs, Florida to pursue a business opportunity as owners of Superior Meat Company in Fort Lauderdale. In this capacity they worked together, hand in hand for over 30 years which she greatly enjoyed.

However, Noreen's true passion was raising her family. Noreen was a wonderful mother, she felt being a mother was her life's purpose, providing endless love and care to her two children Andrew and Erin. Later, her family was expanded to include Donald and Mary which are spouses to her children Erin and Andrew, respectively. Further, she would love and care for her nieces and nephews Amy, Elisha, James, William, Stephen, Kristina, and Jessica as they were her own children. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren Colston (11), Arianna (8) and Lillian (6) which were a source of much joy and pleasure in the later years of her life. In her spare time, she enjoyed dancing at DANL Dance Center where she made many lifelong friendships as she attended the studio for over 20 years. At DANL she was very active, her daughter, nieces and later granddaughters were heavily involved dancing with the studio. Also, Noreen enjoyed reading, traveling, listening to music, cooking, hosting parties and spending time with her friends and family.

Noreen is described by her family as a mother to all, selflessly providing herself to others as she had the ability to care deeply about those around her in such a way only a mother could. Further, she was the source of wisdom, love, compassion, and guidance for the Szoke family as she was the "go to" person for strength in times of need, giving sound advice to those she loved. Others would describe Noreen as charismatic, and empathetic; her warm, kind and unique personality would light up any room with a smile that was contagious. She was truly remarkable person; Noreen was loved by all that knew her and will be greatly missed by many and most deeply by her family.

As common in the Szoke family, Noreen held the belief that cardinals were a spiritual messenger, bringing you comfort from your deceased loved ones from the other side. In the final months of her life, she was visited frequently by cardinals which she would describe in great detail. Specifically, toward the end she saw two cardinals, a male feeding a female at her back window which she believed was distinct message of reassurance and confirmation of this belief. She would want her family to know that if you ever see a cardinal in passing or at your window it may be our Noreen bringing a message of love from the other side.
