Maximina Chevrestt, 68, of Coral Springs Fl passed away on Friday July 6, 2012 at Tamarac Nursing Home & Rehabilitation. Maximina was born in Cayey, Puerto Rico on November 7, 1943 to Ramon Rodriguez and Germina Torres. She moved to New York at the age of 15 and met Victor Chevrestt at the age of 17. Shortly after, they married and moved to Brooklyn, New York, eventually raising six children. This is where she lived much of her vibrant life with family and friends. She was affectionately known as Maxi. Everyone knew never to call her Maximina. Despite her physical ailments and limitations, Maxi lived independently and never let anything stop her from doing what she loved. She was often the life of the party and enjoyed dancing and singing to just about any music. With a Newport 100 in hand, she used her walker to cruise the streets of Brooklyn and Florida. She was the lady everyone in the neighborhood knew and she greeted all with a friendly smile. Maxi was also known for her delectable Spanish dishes and for taking traditional recipes and adding her own twist, which she referred to as "a la Maxi". She was always happy to take requests and expressed love through her food. Maxi loved nature and walks on the beach. Although, toward the end of her life, it became difficult to take these walks, she enjoyed just staring out at the ocean. At times, she just stared into the sky counting planes and reported back how many. This brought her great peace and serenity. Maxi always left those who had the pleasure of meeting her with a lasting impression. She was bold and never afraid to speak her mind. Her sharp tongue at times instilled both humor and fear in those around her. Deep below her tough exterior, in which many were familiar with, she had an amazing heart of gold and an abundance of compassion and kindness for all. Her spirit will always live on in her children, grandchildren and great grandchild. She will forever be loved and never forgotten. She is survived by her daughters Maritza, Mary, Cindy, Blanca and Veronica; her son Luis; her grandchildren Chrissy, Ernesto, Ray-Ray, Matt, Sam, Corey, Jada, Mattie and (soon to be) Cameron; her great grandchild Dominick; her son-in-laws Fernando, Ray and Sam; daughter-in-law Jami. She is also survived by many of her loving brothers, sisters and their children.
