Obituary

Marjorie Ann Viens

7/12/1942-11/4/2019

Marjorie Ann Viens of Davie, FL passed away peacefully on November 4, 2019. She was 77 years old.

Born in Massachusetts on July 12, 1942, Marjorie was the first child of Philip and Marietta DiDio, who were

first generation Italian-Americans. Marjorie and her brother Philip were raised surrounded by several

generations of extended family, thick with Italian heritage and customs, yet proud American citizens (her

grandfather and father were veterans of WW1 and WW2, respectively).

Marjorie's parents moved to Florida during the late 1950's, which forced her to finish her school years in a

new environment. She made the difficult decision to return to Massachusetts after graduation from high

school.

A year later, she was living and working at her family's restaurant, The Rendezvous, in Methuen, MA, when

a handsome Massachusetts State Trooper came in for a meal. Little did she know she had met the love of

her life, Joseph R. (Dick) Viens.

They moved to Florida together in 1960 to be near the warm weather they both loved so much. They

married, in 1963, and spent the next 54 years creating memories with family and friends.

They were married seven years before starting a family; Dick worked in law enforcement with the Miramar

Police Department and Marjorie worked in the administrative department for the Coast Guard in Miami. She

was the Admiral's secretary. Ultimately, she decided to leave the workforce, in anticipation of the birth of

their first child, Michele.

During the 1970's, Dick became increasingly more involved in local politics and Marjorie graciously stood

by his side. In 1978, they welcomed their son, Richard, and during that same year, Dick was elected Mayor

of the City of Miramar. As the city's First Lady, Marjorie was hosted official engagements; she cheered on

local parades and beauty pageants and attended countless functions and parties; all the while she was

raising a young family.

When Richard was old enough to go to school, she reentered the workforce and became a teacher's

assistant and administrative office staff member for the local elementary school. Post-retirement, Dick and

Marjorie enjoyed traveling with friends. She loved sitting poolside and playing Mahjong with her friends

from the Township community in Coconut Creek and attending weekend parties at the local Elks Lodge.

But her favorite activity was spending her time helping to raise their grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband and is survived by their children, Michele (Bryan) and Richard, as

well as her brother, Philip and six grandchildren: Olivia, Meredith, Wade, Paige, Dietrich and Adeline; Her

legacy of kindness and generosity lives on in them.

She will be interred with her husband at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL.
