Luis Chavez Garcia, 91, of Coral Springs, FL passed away on January 20, 2017. Born in Sanchez, Dominican Republic to Osvaldo and Maria Cristina Chavez Garcia, he was a hard working man that made an honest living. Luis was part of the Dominican Marines and Navy before becoming a police officer. In 1964 Luis moved to New York with his family where he began his own business in the steel industry while continuing to return back to his country. After his retirement in 1993, he made New York his home before settling in Coral Springs, FL in 2000.
Luis was a very happy man who loved being the center of attention by cracking jokes and telling stories. His passions were music, tools, and cars. He loved to share fond memories of his military days with his grandchildren. In his younger years, Luis loved dancing with his beloved wife.
Luis is survived by his wife of 54 years, Olga; his children, JoseLuis (Altagracia) Chavez, Jacqueline (Juan) Taveras, Santiago Chavez, and Martin (Mira) Chavez; his grandchildren, Jasmin, Christian, Genesis, and LuisJose; and his great-grandchildren, AdrianJordan and Anastasia. He also leaves his sisters, Nereyda and Angelica, to cherish his memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy are made by planting a tree (available through this web page) in his memory or making a donation directly to the family to create a memorial for him.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at Savino-Weissman Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a Memorial Service to begin at 7:00 P.M.
St. Andrew Catholic Church will be celebrating Memorial Mass for Luis on January 30, February 4, February 10, and February 18 at 7:00 P.M.

Luis naci el 8 de Marzo del ao 1925 en S¡nchez, Repblica Dominicana, hijo de Osvaldo y Mara Cristina Ch¡vez Garca.
Luis fue un hombre trabajador que hizo una vida honesta En su juventud fue parte de la marina y el ejrcito antes de ser un oficial de la polica en la Repblica Dominicana. En el ao 1964 se mud a Nueva York con su familia donde comenz su propio negocio en la industria de herrera mientras continuaba visitando su pas natal. Despus de su jubilacin en 1993, hizo de Nueva York su hogar permanente antes de mudarse a Coral Springs, Florida en el ao 2,000.
Luis fue un hombre alegre que le encantaba ser el centro de atencin con sus chistes, y buen humor contando sus historias de la milicia y su aos mozos a sus nietos, amistades y seres queridos. Su pasin era la msica, herramientas y sus carros. Tambin le gustaba bailar con su amada esposa.
A Luis le sobreviven su esposa de 54 aos de casados Olga Miriam; sus hijos Jose Luis y Altagracia, Jacqueline y Juan Carlos, Santiago Antonio, Martin Eduardo y Mira Chavez; sus nietos, Jasmin Charisse,
Jean-Christian, Genesis Carolina, Luis Jose, sus bisnietos Adri¡n- Jordan, Anastasia Carolina y sus hermanas Angelica y Nereyda Ch¡vez para mantener vivo su recuerdo.
