Sipes
February 4, 1947 – September 23, 2021
Lionel Vincent Sipes, 74, passed on September 23, 2021, from complications relating to COVID-19. He was born to Bea Smallwood and was adopted by Richard and Bertha Sipes in Scottsburg, Indiana on February 04, 1947.
He married his high school sweetheart Darlene Sipes in 1965 and they lived together for most of their lives in Indianapolis, Indiana. Together they raised one son Patrick Sipes. They moved to Coral Springs, Florida in 2013 to be near their son and grandsons.
Lionel is survived by his wife, Darlene, son, Patrick, and daughter-in-law, Luciane Sipes. He is also survived by his two grandsons., Sean and Vincent Sipes. He also had the love of a grand-puppy, Vlad. Lionel was the youngest of seven children from Bea Smallwood. He is survived by his half-brother, Robert Smallwood, and half-sister, Veona "Tiny" Moody. He had two other half-brothers, Paul and Neil Smallwood, and two half-sisters, Catherine Kelly and Evelyn Kaiser that have passed before him.
Lionel graduated from Northwest High School in 1965 but attended George Washington High School for his Freshman and Sophomore years. During his years at George Washington H.S., he voted to the All-City Football Team.
Lionel worked at GM/EDS until he retired in 2007 and was passionate about affecting the most positive change in people.
He was a member of the Scottish Rite Freemasonry of Indianapolis Indiana. In 1976, Lionel was honored with the title of Master. He also received his Ham Radio License and helped with national events. In his church, he volunteered as the Choir Director and played on the softball team. He developed a love for the game of Golf and taught himself how to make his golf clubs. He also has a great love for the art of photography and would spend many hours in the darkroom with his brother-in-law developing pictures.
