Leon Loubyo Jean, 73, of Coral Springs, FL died on Thursday, July 31, 2014. Leon was born November 7, 1940 in Gros Morne, Haiti to Olane Jean and Isbelle Charles. Leon is survived by his children, Marie Saroude Jean, Rachele (Stephen) Sylvan, Winifred Jean, and Christopher Jean; his grandchildren, Max Senat, Madison Sylvan, and Ronan Sylvan; and his wife, Nely. He also leaves his siblings, Raymonde Joseph, Marietta Jean, Monarque Jean, Fenix Jean, Marauld Jean, Guillaume Jean, Yolande Jean, and Jean Robert Jean to cherish his memory. Leon is predeceased by his sisters Marie-Claude Jean and Emeranthe Jean. Leon emigrated from Haiti to the United States on December 23, 1969. He lived in Queens, NY for 23 years. During this entire period, he worked at Granain Drug Company in Freeport, NY until his retirement. After retirement, Leon and his family moved to Fort Lauderdale, FL, first to Miramar and then finally to Coral Springs. In 1993, Leon opened Island Supermarket on West Sample Road in Coral Springs. Leon was an active member of Philadelphie French Seventh-day Adventist Church in Coral Springs. Leon also had a great love and respect for the military and law enforcement. He completed the Coral Springs Police Department Citizens Police Academy, was a part of the Coral Springs Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and an active volunteer with the Coral Springs Code Rangers Program. Friends and family may come to pay respects from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the Coral Springs Funeral Home, 1420 N. University Drive, Coral Springs, FL 33071. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 9:00 A.M. on Monday, August 11, 2014 at Coral Springs Funeral Home followed by burial at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
