Karen Tarbet, age 57, of Coconut Creek, Florida passed away on December 13, 2013. She was with her wife, Maureen McNichol, at the time of her death. Karen was born in Syracuse, New York, November 8, 1956. Her parents were William and Mary Tarbet. After receiving a B.S. Degree from Syracuse University, Karen worked as an accountant in New York City and in the family construction business before re-locating to Florida, in 1990. In Florida, she attended the Nova Southeastern School of Law, earning her JD degree. She practiced law for several years before taking on her life's true calling, teaching. Karen served as an instructor for the Becker Professional CPA Review and as adjunct faculty member for DeVry University and Florida Atlanta University and received multiple honors for her teaching abilities. At the time of her passing Karen was a senior manager for Becker Professional Education. Karen loved to play outdoors and to garden, fish, play golf and ride the waves among the Florida Keys. She is survived by her wife Maureen McNichol and her dog Smackey. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 20 at 7:00 PM at the Savino-Weissman Funeral Home in Margate. Karen's family and friends will gather at 6:00 PM to remember Karen and greet visitors to her service. Dress will be informal.
