John H. Fernandes, 81, of Lauderhill passed away on September 20th, 2016. For 56 years, he was married to Annette and serviced our grateful nation in the Army between the Korean and Vietnam wars. He then worked for Eastern Airlines as a Lead Ramp Serviceman for 36 years. He later moved to Broward County in 1971 and worked for the Broward County School Board for 10 years as a lawn maintenance worker. He was also involved in the community as a volunteer receptionist for the VA and also volunteered with the Lauderhill Citizen's Patrol. His family will always remember him as outgoing, jovial, able to lighten up any situation, social, and a handy-man "Jack of all trades. His sons describes him as a GREAT father and kept the family close-knit and he will deeply be missed during the family gatherings. During his leisure time, he enjoyed watching the Dolphins and Marlins play, playing games, and reading detective stories and history from the WW2 era. His favorite cars were the 57 Chevy and Volkswagen Beetle.
He leaves behind his wife, Annette, sons Steven (Pam Magno), and Robert (Beverly) Fernandes; sisters Peggy (Tom)Moran and Carol (Peter) Goss; granddaughters Nicole (Nick) Szczepanik, Kayla (Donovan Joseph) Fernandes, Emily Fernandes, Carmela and Justina Donley; grandsons Michael and Brandon Fernandes; great-granddaughters Aryana Rose and Jalena Donley; and great-grandsons Kassidy Durcel. Other extraordinary family he's survived by are Phyllis and Robert Thumudo and Lou Anne Fernandes. He's preceded in death by his grandson Anthony.
