Jerry was born on September 13, 1940, to Doris and Ernest Sucher in Sterling Illinois. He attended East Coloma School for his early education, then attended Sterling grade school thru high school, graduating in 1958. After graduation, Jerry was employed by National Tea grocery store in Sterling Illinois for 15 years. During this time, in 1960, while cruising in his Dodge Dart, he went to the Dog n Suds in Rock Falls. There, he met the love of his life, Donna, who was working as a car hop. Shortly after, they were married on July 21, 1961. Together they welcomed two children into their home. Jerry's professional life was marked by a strong work ethic and a commitment to service. He dedicated many years to the grocery business, working with National Tea/Del Farm before moving on to a successful career at Wetzell Insurance. In 1979, Kroger asked Jerry to manage the newly added deli/bakery department, where he continued his grocery career until his retirement in 2000. On the day of his retirement, he packed his bags, picked up Donna from work and was on the road to their second home in Florida.

While in Florida, Jerry enjoyed many days on the golf course where he achieved a hole in one at the Woodmont Country Club. Не also enjoyed boating, snorkeling, going to the beach, swimming, dining and shopping. Jerry was known for his extraordinary sense of humor, his love for cars and being meticulous at everything he did. He had an engaging charisma, bringing joy to those around him throughout his life.
