IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Joseph
Donnelly
June 4, 1940 – February 27, 2018
James "Jim" Donnelly passed away peacefully on Tuesday the 27 th of February at the age of 77. Jim was born on June 4, 1940 in Newark, NJ. He spent his childhood in Union, NJ, his adult years living in Hollywood, FL and Toms River, NJ, and after a long life filled with loving family, great friends, and professional successes he enjoyed retirement as a snowbird.
Jim was a proud first generation Irish American and will be remembered by all who knew him for his old-fashioned nature, his passion for golf, his ability to tell a great story, and his loyalty and love for his family and friends.
Jim will also be remembered as a successful entrepreneur and a seasoned business executive. In his mid-20s, while working for The American Can Company he identified a business opportunity and opened a power wash company targeting industrial manufacturers with large automotive fleets, which he rapidly grew and eventually sold. Following the sale, at the age of 32 he chased the sun and moved south to Florida where he purchased and oversaw operations for two motels – the Pelican and the Sandpiper – on Hollywood Beach. He eventually sold both motels and returned to New Jersey where he joined a growing, and at the time, small private company we now know as UPS. During his time at UPS he held a variety of leadership roles and was a member of the management team when UPS was brought public. Jim retired at the age of 55.
He was preceded in death by his great grandson Eric, his son James, his brother and best-friend Patrick, his sister Peggy, and his parents James and Margaret.
Jim will continue to be remembered in life by his children, Susan, Kelly, Amy, Joanne, and Brian, 17 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, family, friends, and his love and life partner for the finest and final 16 years of his life, Cecilia Cahill.
A ceremony will be held to celebrate his life on Saturday March 10, 2018 from 11:00am till 1:00pm at Savino~Weissman 2950 N State Road 7 Margate, FL 33063 follow by a procession at Our Lady Queen of Heaven 1500 S State Road 7 North Lauderdale, FL 33068
