George Nicholas Anselona, 72, of Coral Springs, FL passed away peacefully surrounded by family in the early morning hours of Thursday, October 10, 2013. George was born on February 22, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY. George married his beloved, Phyllis, in 1961. Together they had 3 children while residing in Brooklyn. George provided tirelessly for his family working as a fireman for the New York Fire Department. During the fires and riots in the early 70's, George was one of the first responders and is considered a hero for his efforts. Upon his retirement, the family relocated to South Florida where George became a partner in AAC United Fire and Safety Equipment of Pompano Beach. George was devoted to his family. Relationships were very important to him. An extremely kind, caring, and generous man, he helped everyone who would accept it. He devoted time to the choir at Mary Help of Christians and was a member of the parish for many years. He was very sociable, loved to dance and always the life of the party. Together they enjoyed socializing with their many friends. George enjoyed a very active life. He could be found playing a round of golf, gardening, or sculpting . He loved nature and animals. George would find peace working with bonsai. Every morning he would feed the turtles, fish and ducks in the pond behind his home. He adored Hennie, Daisy and Cinnamon, the Anselona's "angels in fuzzy pajamas." George will be remembered by his family and close friends as being a very supportive, strong, and loving husband, father, and grandfather and uncle. A patient man; one pure of heart. George is survived by his wife of 52 years, Phyllis and his children, April, Charles (wife Suzanne) May, Michele (husband Hector) Posada. Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Rachel, Phillip, Elizabeth, Kimberly, and Hector. The family requests donations be made to The National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation at in the name of George Nicholas Anselona. Friends may call on Saturday, October 12, 2013 and Sunday, October 13, 2013 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, October 14, 2013 at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church on University Drive in Parkland.
