On Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 2:45 P.M., 1st Sergeant (retired) Gale N. Monda was recalled to active duty as he snapped a brisk salute to his new Commandant St. Peter and joined ranks with the heroes who preceded him. Always a proud Marine, and also a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and devoted friend, he is now at peace. Born on March 23, 1941 in Portland, OR he is survived by his wife of over 45 years, Patty Monda; daughter, Kelly (Monda) Smith and son-in-law, Lennie Smith; grandchildren, Lorna and Evan Smith; and sister, Betty (Monda) Quinn. Gale was preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Rene Monda; his brothers, Ron, Dennis and Rene, Jr.; and his daughter, Karen Lee Monda. Friends may call from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Coral Springs Funeral Home, 1420 N. University Drive, Coral Springs, FL. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Gale will be laid to rest at New Bern National Cemetery in New Burn, NC with full military honors.
