Frieda Montanti (née Ossowski), age 87, of Coral Springs, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 17, 2025, surrounded by her devoted family.
Frieda was the beloved wife of Anthony (Tony) Montanti for 65 wonderful years. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and family. She was the proud and loving mother of Frieda and husband Steven Goldstein, Lisa and husband Richard Smolich, and Christine and husband Denis Kurta. She was the treasured grandmother of Zachary Smolich, Emily and husband Adam Coverstone, Jacob and Hadara Goldstein, and Jennifer and Jessica Kurta. Frieda was predeceased by her dear sister and five brothers, all of whom she carried in her heart throughout her life.
Frieda was born on March 29, 1938, in Drozdowo, Poland, to the late Ludwig and Marianne (née Wiencowski) Ossowski. At five years old, she and her sister, Josefa Braasch (née Ossowski), departed Poland, lived for several years in Germany, and immigrated to the United States at age thirteen, where she was lovingly raised by her devoted sister.
At 18, while attending cosmetology school in Jersey City, New Jersey, Frieda met the love of her life, Tony. The two were inseparable from that moment on. They married in 1960 and began their journey together in Weehawken before settling in Ridgefield, New Jersey, where they raised their three daughters and created a warm and loving home.
Together, Frieda and Tony owned and operated a hair salon in Weehawken for nearly 40 years, from 1962 until their retirement in 1999. Their salon was more than a business—it was a place filled with friendship, laughter, and community. After retiring, they moved to Coral Springs, Florida, where they enjoyed a full and happy life surrounded by friends and sunshine.
Frieda lived life to the fullest. She served for many years as treasurer of the Deborah Heart Foundation – Ridgefield Chapter as well as the AARP of Coral Springs, Florida. She loved cooking, sewing, bowling for which she proudly earned many trophies for her skill. She and Tony shared a love of adventure—traveling the world, skiing in the Alps, and dancing wherever music played. They even won a dance contest on their honeymoon, a memory they cherished forever.
She was happiest outdoors, tending to her garden and nurturing her flowers with the same care and devotion she gave to her family. In Florida, she remained active and social, taking part in community groups including the Saint Elizabeth Senior Group and the Sons of Italy. Her lifelong love of the arts inspired her and Tony to volunteer as ushers at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale for over 12 years.
Frieda will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, her incredible work ethic, and her boundless love for her family. She was a constant source of support, warmth, and joy. Her
six grandchildren were her greatest pride, and she played a loving and active role in each of their lives.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her—her family, her nieces and nephews in New York, New Jersey, and Florida, and her many friends who became like family through the years.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Coral Springs Funeral Home, University Drive, Coral Springs, Florida. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Coral Springs.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital, in care of the funeral home.
We offer our deepest condolences to the family of the late Frieda Montanti, who have entrusted Coral Springs Funeral Home with the privilege of arranging her final services. We invite you to share your heartfelt sympathy and support by leaving your condolences in our online guestbook.
