Clara Lourdes Garcia, 62, of Coconut Creek, Florida, entered eternal rest on Monday, November 15, 2021. She is survived by her husband William Cortes, son George Luis Garcia, sister Rosario Lasley (Donald), nephews Elias Hernandez (Jana), Michael Hernandez (Diana), father-in-law Guillermo Cortes (Emilia) and Alina Baquiel (step-daughter in law) and children Jennifer, Michael and Justin who lovingly referred to her as Lela. She was predeceased by daughter Lileana Garcia, mother Josefina Vazquez and father Roberto Alvarez.
Clara was born April 19, 1959, in Vedado, Havana, Cuba to Josefina Vazquez and Roberto Alvarez. Immigrating to the United States in 1970, She attended and graduated from Rosemead High School in Rosemead, California in 1977. After graduating from high school, she lived and worked for various companies in varying positions throughout the San Gabriel Valley area of suburban Los Angeles, California. In 1994, she relocated to the south Florida area and began working in the medical field administrative side. Most recently she worked in medical office administration, medical plan administration and the overall marketing aspects of health care. At the time of her death, she was working as a Customer Service and Marketing Representative for Optum HealthCare in the medical offices of Margate, Atlantic, and Coral Springs Florida. In that capacity she provided administrative support to numerous doctors and the health care providers of those offices.
Known to many for her caring concern for the health and welfare of everyone, she has a long list of friends, patients and loved ones that she has helped over the years. She was a strong advocate for seniors, visiting numerous senior homes in the area to provide help and understanding of Medicare and other medical plans to those that lacked a complete understanding. Her knowledge of these plans proved invaluable to the seniors she advocated for.
She will be most remembered for her engaging personality and her dedication to her children, husband, sister, and those that she encountered daily through her profession.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021, at the Coral Springs Funeral Home 1420 N. University Dr., Coral Springs, Florida between the hours of 4pm and 7pm.
