Charles Lee Dougherty, 91, of Coral Springs, FL died on Sunday, July 13, 2014. Charles was born October 12, 1922 in Medora, IL, to Luman and Agnes Dougherty.

After graduating as Valedictorian of his class, Charles joined the United States Army where he proudly served a number of years. He met his beloved bride, Rose, in St. Petersburg, FL. Together they made their home in Summit, NJ where they raised their family until 1983. At that time, the Dougherty's moved to South Florida.

A pharmacy assistant by education, he was naturally a talented carpenter and blessed with a fantastic sense of humor. Tremendously kind to anyone he passed, Charles and his smiling Irish green eyes would make his presence known first by whistling on his way. He was also a Mason and enjoyed the cameraderie the Lodge provided him. A history buff, Charles had a large WWII memorabilia collection and prided himself on teaching his children American history by visiting museuems, monuments and other historically important sites.

Charles' heart abounded with love for his family, especially his grandchildren. He would often brag about his lawyer grandson, Matthew. For 66 years, Charles cherished his marriage to Rose Marie Dougherty. He is also survived by his children, Sharon (Steven) Tacovelli and Charles (Sharon) Dougherty, Jr.; his beloved grandchildren, Matthew (Lani) Fornaro, Carli (Scott) Langevin, and Kelli Dougherty; and his great grandchildren, Jackson and Annabella. He was preceded in death by his sister, Corrine Harlan.

Friends may call from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Coral Springs Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held 7:30 P.M. On Friday, July 18, 2014 at 1:45 P.M. he will be laid to rest with Military Honors at South Florida National Cemetery.
