Obituary

Calvie Dolores Edens, 83, of Coral Springs, FL passed away on October 7, 2015. She was born on December 3, 1931 in Stamford, TX. She is survived by her children, Latana (Jonah) Hurwitz and Rustin Edens, Sr.; and her grandchildren, Michael Garvey, Amanda (Josh Lawson) Garvey, Rustin Edens, Jr., and Morgan (Brandon) Ice. Also left to cherish her memory are her great grandchildren, Madison, Shane, Lindsey, Austin, Tyler and Diesel; and two of her siblings, Lila Eleese Cousins and Donald "Buddy" Hobbs. She was preceded in death by siblings Leroy Goree and Peggy Anderson.

Calvie was a proud Texan of French and Indian descent. She lived across the Eastern U.S. in Michigan, Florida, Ohio, New Jersey and Maryland before settling in Coral Springs, FL in 1995. She remained a loyal Cowboys fan, much to her family's dismay! Calvie, more affectionately known as Mimi, was extremely family oriented. She loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally. She was a big part of her grandchildren's lives, helping to raise them and involved with their activities. Her cooking was always from scratch and it brought the family together regularly.

In her younger years, Calvie enjoyed sewing, knitting and even crocheting baby blankets for the grandkids. In her seventies, she began classes that brought inspiration to so many others because of her age and drive to make a difference in people's lives. Calvie found joy in starting support groups for heart surgery survivors, as she was one herself. Calvie was a very strong-willed lady. She was always a flirt and enjoyed flirting with the firefighters and EMT's. Her heart bounded love; everyone always took to her immediately and she became a mother and grandmother figure to so many outside her family. Her spirit lives on in her grandchildren but she will forever be missed.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a Memorial Service to begin at 8:00 P.M. The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers.
