Obituary

Third Class Petty Officer Brian Giusepe Garro, 26, of Coral Springs, FL died unexpectedly on Friday, October 31, 2014 in Honolulu, HI. Brian was born on April 17, 1988 in Lima, Peru.

Brian moved to Plantation, FL at the age of 14. He graduated from South Plantation High School where he joined the Science Club as an aspiring engineer and was part of the JROTC program. It was the JROTC that recruited Brian to the United States Navy after graduation. Brian was privileged to travel much of the world while serving our Nation. He was deployed to Afghanistan and upon his return he began learning Mandarin while stationed in California. After becoming fluent in Mandarin, he was transferred to Honolulu, HI where he was hoping to begin work with National Security Agency.

Brian's daily duties on base in Hawaii included raising the flag each morning and mentoring new recruits. Brian was a gentle man with genuine concern for others. Being raising mostly by his grandmother during his younger years in Peru, he had a special connection with her. Whenever she fell ill, Brian was sure to take a leave to come home and be with her. Brian also kept in touch with many of his fellow Sailors after transferring stations and with his friends from school. His passions included snorkeling, diving, crossfit, and sharing his Peruvian heritage with good friends by cooking traditional meals.

Brian is survived by his mother, Deysi Garro Spivey; his grandmother, Sofia Escobedo; his aunts and uncles, Sonia Garro, Jessica Garro, Janette & Pepe Garro, Bruno Audibert, and Jimmy Justo; and his cousins, Fabiola, Daniela, Rodrigo, Marcelo, and Micaela.
