IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bette Jane
Weter
August 9, 1944 – January 7, 2021
Bette Jane Weter was a caring mother, nana, sister, aunt and friend. She passed away on January 7, 2021, at the age of 76. She always showed strength and a sense of humor while dealing with chronic health issues. Even in her final days, her nurses referred to her as "strong and feisty."
Bette was born on August 9, 1944 in Jamaica, New York, the daughter of the late William and Pauline (Nana) Thompson. She was "BeaJay" to her parents and friends, "Mom" to her sons, and "Nana B" to her grandsons.
Bette worked as a labor and delivery nurse for nearly forty years. She trained as a paralegal. To her family, though, her role as a mother was paramount.
Bette enjoyed reading, her Precious Moments figurines, family get-togethers, computer games, crosswords, card games, and Words with Friends. She cherished her memories of traveling to North Carolina's Outer Banks, and spoke often of those vacations.
You always knew where you stood with Bette; either she told you what she thought or she showed you with animated facial expressions. Bette had her own way of doing things; they made no sense to her family, but they made sense to her. Her devotion to cleaning products and Publisher's Clearing House are examples of this. If you asked her to do something, she said "yes, boss" and then did what she wanted. But she was also humble, calling herself "pesky me" when calling or leaving a voicemail.
Bette leaves behind an eclectic, quirky, clumsy family that she was very proud of. She is survived by her sons, James Weter, Jr. [Stephanie] and Robert Paul Weter [Michelle], grandchildren, Grant Thompson Weter and Blake James Weter; and brother, William Thompson, Jr.
All who loved her dearly will never forget her tenacity, wit, strong will, charm, grace (when pertinent), generosity and unconditional love and care for them.
Due to COVID-19 and gathering restrictions, a private family "Celebration of Life" will be held, in lieu of a service.
Please share your memories of Bette or leave your condolences to her family with this Online Guestbook.
