Obituary

In Loving Memory of Barry Popock

Barry Popock, 73, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on January 20, 1953, Barry lived a life defined by love, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family. He spent more than 30 years working in the clothing manufacturing industry where his dedication, strong work ethic, and pride in his work earned the respect of those who knew him.

Basketball was one of Barry's greatest passions. He spent many years coaching young athletes before becoming the Athletic Director for the Coral Springs Basketball Club, where he dedicated more than 30 years to mentoring players, supporting families, and helping shape the lives of countless young athletes. His influence reached far beyond the basketball court, and the relationships he built over the years will continue to be part of his lasting legacy.

Barry also enjoyed playing golf and never turned down a good meal. He appreciated life's simple pleasures and loved gathering around the table with family and friends. He was known for being able to fix almost anything. If something was broken, Barry was the first person called because everyone knew he could figure it out.

Above all else, Barry's greatest joy was his family. He loved spending time together, celebrating milestones, making memories, and simply being surrounded by the people he loved most. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone without expecting anything in return. His kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others touched countless lives.

Although Barry faced many medical challenges throughout his life, he met those obstacles and continued to make the most of every opportunity to spend time with his family and friends.

Barry is survived by his loving wife, Fran Popock; his daughter, Coryn Matonti and her husband/son-in-law, John Matonti, along with their children, Adrianna, Gabriella, and Philip; his son, Brett Popock and his wife/daughter-in-law, Lauren Popock; along with their children, Cooper and Caleb, his sister, Linda Finkel, his niece, Lisa Leon and her husband, Rob Leon, whom Barry considered a beloved nephew, along with their children, Blake and Makenzie Leon, his niece, Stacey Seskin, and her son, Noah Seskin.

While our hearts are broken by his passing, we are grateful for the love he shared, the lessons he taught, and the memories he gave us. His legacy will live on through his family, the many lives he touched through basketball, and everyone fortunate enough to have known him.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Barry's life on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Coral Springs Funeral Home, 1420 University Drive, Coral Springs, FL 33071. Visitation will be held from 11:00am to 12:00pm, followed by the funeral service from 12:00-1:00pm.

Those we love don't go away. They walk besides us every day.
