Anton Schlachter, 74, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 11, 2013 at Hospice by the Sea Care Center in Boca Raton, Fl after a very short illness. He was the son of Anton and Barbara Schlachter born and raised in Ridgewood, Queens, New York. He joined the US Army and served four years as a paratrooper with an honorable discharge. He graduated from the City College of New York with an engineering degree. He later moved to NJ with his wife and three sons. Was a lifetime member of the Garden State Underwater Recovery Unit in NJ. Retired from AT&T with 38 years service. Moved to Coconut Creek, Fl in 1998 and remarried in 2000. Served on the CERT team of Coconut Creek for the past 2 years. Was an avid computer buff. He was a devoted father and husband. He enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren. He loved football and was a loyal Miami Dolphins fan. He is survived by his wife Marlene of 12 years. Three sons, Anthony and wife Carol, James and wife Andrea, Steven and wife, Donna, sister Katherine and husband John McCormick and mother, Barbara. Granddaughter, Tia. Stepson, Gregory Norton, stepdaughters, Kathleen and husband Mark, and Trenace Walker. Step-grandchildren, Christopher and Christine Benton, Jonathan Norton, Brooke Michaud, Kassandra and Jared Millhime and Tyler Walker. He will be sadly missed by all. Donations can be made to American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
