Alice Dolly Vila Nieves was born on December 2nd, 1952 in Bronx, New York to her mother, Tahalis Maria Calderon, and father Alexander Vila. As the eldest, she had 2 brothers and 4 sisters. Through the years she had some tough times, especially growing up. She always carried an "Adapt and Overcome" attitude. She was constantly reinventing herself to make changes for a better life. She was a wonderful wife and loving mother who was all about her family and wanted nothing more than for everyone to be together. She is the mother of four children, Michelle, Alex, Marta, and William, whom she adored and loved very much. She is also an awesome and cool grandmother to six grandchildren, JJ, Gabby, George, Emilio, Emily, and Lexington. She cherished and loved with all her heart her husband of 34 years, William, and will continue to love him even in the afterlife in heaven. She was always looking for ways to provide above and beyond for what her family needed. She was the best cook, medical care giver, teacher, counselor, disciplinarian and road map to success. All her home time went into giving her children knowledge and love. Even if you didn't want to listen, Alice still made sure you knew her advice. Being a true leader, her integrity could never falterno one could ever change that. She was all about her honor and protected it with her life. Mom was a real life hero to her children. Not in the sense of super powers but with love, discipline, and fortitude...she transferred her essence in how to contribute to the world. The many lives she touched and changed outside of our family is truly unbelievable. I know personally and first hand that lives have been changed and benefited from having our Mom as their Mom. GIVING TO THE WORLD WITHOUT CONDITIONS Alice is not just our mom but a parent to society. She made sure that she cared for all peopleespecially children who were less fortunate. Alice made sure they had something extra in their lives, be it confidence, love, gifts or even money. She made sure they were not without. Alice served as a servant to the sick for 15 years of her life as a Nurse and made sure she was always early to work, thoughtful, kind and gave all her heart in the moments she handled her patients. Sometimes she would come home feeling bad for them. She wished she had the power remove their illnesses but knew all she could do is give them hope and happiness. Alice was a real go-getter in life and never sat back and let life pass her by. Every day was an adventure and something new to learn. She was helping out in the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts as an Assistant Scout Master or taxing the children to ballet, tap, jazz, boxing and martial arts. Improving her world and others was what made her a force to reckon with. She knew the public systems and how they worked and that helped a great deal for her. Her 17 years of experience as mental health worker gave her the knowledge to help parents deal with the overwhelming problem of drugs in their communities. She became the president of 40 buildings in Woodside Queens, NY and caused a movement against the drug dealers and pushers. She was directly responsible in the grant writing and rehabilitation and remodeling of the Cosmopolitan buildings. This has caused a paradigm shift for many people to think differently and not accept what society said what their worth was. Alice showed the importance of human life in each and every one of those people involved. Throughout the years she has held various positions in human services. In 2008, she mentored and empowered a group of parents through many obstacles and worked closely with The United Way to accomplish a mission to help them become self-sufficient. She had a passion for many things in life but her Crown Jewel was working with special needs children. Being able to provide her services to the Board of Education she reached out to these children. She made sure they knew that someone truly cared. In 2010, she worked at her son's business endeavor, Fitwize 4 Kids, as a Summer Camp Coordinator where she had managed and mentored over 50 kids. She taught us all to think of others, be considerate, trustworthy, loyal, helpful, kind and most of all how to LOVE. She refused to give up and would never listen to people who were dream stealers or nay sayers. Alice's passion for helping others meet their goals with her positive and motivating personality made her a highly sought after person by the people who needed her guidance. On July 21, 2013 surrounded by her husband and children, Alice passed away and joined the Lord. We will all miss this person whom we call MOM and WIFE. She will always be remembered to us as a force for good. We were put on earth to serve one another but sometimes we get in our own way and forget what really counts. Alice would forgive anyone who needed it because she carried a compassionate heart. Alice's last wish would be for everyone to celebrate her life and remember the good times and the love she shared. Let us go away knowing Alice is now in peace and would want everyone to come together in forgiveness and love. Leave behind the right or the wrong or the old stories that leave you paralyzed. Move forward towards family and friends because they will not last forever in this world and we all need to take every moment and live it like if it was our last. WE ALL LOVE MOM, ALICE NIEVES AND WE KNOW YOU WILL BE IN HEAVEN WATCHING OVER US.
