Albert, 89. of Tamarac, Florida died peacefully at his home with family and friends at his side on Saturday, January 12, 2013. Albert was born on January 7, 1924 near Fairmont, West Virginia to Italian immigrant parents James and Caroline Scartz. Albert was the youngest in a family of twelve children, The names of his siblings who all preceded him in death are; Mary, Anna, Martha, Harold, Francis, Carl, Julia, Thelma, Dominick, Virginia, and Eugene. Albert joined the Army in 1943 at the age of nineteen. After the war, he went to college on the G.I. billed earning degrees at Fairmont State, West Virginia University, and a Doctorate in Education at George Washington University in Washington, DC. Albert taught industrial arts at public schools in Northern Virginia. After retiring, he and his wife traveled throughout the world learning about other cultures and life styles. Albert continued to "teach" or share his knowledge and experiences with family and close friends by scouring newspaper articles that he thought were interesting. Most members of our large extended family received newspaper clippings from time to time complete with notations with the important parts underlined. Albert was a compassionate and progressive person who believed that it is each generations responsibility to concentrate on improving the next generation. He will be missed by all of us, but he left us in a better place and provided us with a good example of how we should try to live our lives. Albert is survived by his wife and best friend of sixty eight years, Mayetta, a grateful son Larry and his wife Rita. He has four surviving grandchildren: Larry (Buddy) and wife Barbara, Thomas, Jennifer and her husband Craig, and Tiffany and her husband David. Daniel Scartz preceded him in death in 2006. He also has six great-grandchildren; Katie and her husband Nick, Jennifer, Brittany, Neil (Tre), Caroline and Grace.
